I cannot even begin to describe how amazing today was.

Unfortunately, I signed a contract saying I would not post any pictures from my experience online. =X

So, instead, I’ll post this picture of the LoTR beer I got.

Help!

Well… my flight to Cairns was cancelled this morning due to a category 5 cyclone, Yasi, hitting Cairns later tonight.

At first, I was so bummed and stressed out that I started crying in the hotel room.  I didn’t know what to do or how to reschedule anything.  I was freaking out!!  Luckily, I have wonderfully calm and collected parents who told me what to do.  I called Air New Zealand, rescheduled for Friday, and extended my hotel stay.  I mean, look at this thing, it is absolutely HUGE.

To make an awesome thing out of a terrible thing, I booked a tour to visit Hobbiton tomorrow, the actual movie set from Lord of the Rings!!!  To say that I am excited is an understatement; I AM GOING TO PEE MYSELF.

My tour is an all day trip, leaving from Auckland and traveling through NZ’s countryside.  I’m beyond stoked to see the beautiful green lands with mountainous backdrops.  You can bet I will be taking hundreds of photographs.

It is nearing 9PM over here, which means it is time for dinner!  I am slowly becoming addicted to the restaurant in my hotel; it’s delicious and the service is beyond lovely.

That’s all for now. <3

Jan 31/Feb 1

Yesterday, January 31st, was Auckland’s anniversary day!  Because of this, there were some festivals going on about town.  I, however, decided to visit Kelly Tarlton’s Antarctic Encounter & Underwater World as well as Auckland’s Museum, the Ferry Building, and Viaduct Harbor.

Today, Feb. 1st, I hopped back onto my Auckland Explorer bus and traveled to the Michael Joseph Savage Memorial, Mission Bay, Mt. Eden, and the Auckland Zoo.  The zoo shared many similarities with the American zoos I have visited, but there were also some stark differences.

The internet in the Holiday Inn is kind of crappy, so I will add photos and more commentary later!

Is it just me,

or does this toilet have a very odd flusher?

There are two buttons.  One button does a light flush, I am assuming just for your urine.  The larger button does a heavier flush… for the other reason.  Strange, yet neat!

Also, don’t worry, I promise the toilet water was clean when I took this photo!  There is just hardly any water in the toilet, it’s so deep.

Maybe toilets are like this everywhere and I’m just a weirdo.

Finally…

After a four hour flight delay in LAX, I am finally in New Zealand!

I get to enjoy a three day layover here, then it’s back onto the place and a hop across the pond to Cairns.

I decided that my good friend Quackers (as pictured below) will be a main character in my travel photos.  At home, I am often called Ducky by some of my friends, and ducks are frequently associated with me.  Quackers is the cutest!

It’s time for a shower and a nap.  I will return later!
